Why We Start With a Proper Conversation, Not Just a Procedure
Prior to proceeding to the injection schedule and embryo transfer, we consult with you and your spouse and learn about your past. We find out details about your menstrual cycles, any previous pregnancies or miscarriages, existing medical conditions, as well as how long you have been trying to get pregnant. Step 3: Egg Retrieval
The moment your eggs are mature enough, it is time for the egg retrieval procedure. It is a straightforward process that is carried out under sedation and therefore it will not be painful to you. In the egg retrieval process, your eggs are retrieved directly from your ovaries through a very fine needle guided by ultrasound. Step 4: Sperm Collection and Fertilisation
In addition, on the day of the egg retrieval, we will also obtain the sperm specimen from your partner or thaw a previously frozen specimen if your case falls under this category. Either conventional insemination or ICSI (intracytoplasmic sperm injection) will be performed on the eggs and sperm in our laboratory; the latter procedure is carried out by injecting a sperm cell directly into the egg. This procedure is especially relevant for couples suffering from male infertility issues.
Step 5: Embryo Development and Monitoring
For the next 3-6 days, our embryology team watches the development of the fertilized eggs into embryos. All fertilized eggs do not become healthy embryos, which makes this period the most difficult for many couples to go through. We inform you at all stages so that you are always aware of everything that is going on behind the curtains.
Step 6: Embryo Transfer
Now that we have a high-quality embryo, the next step is to do an embryo transfer. Embryo transfer is a straightforward procedure done without sedation. It involves transferring the embryo into your uterus through a thin catheter. At times, the embryo can be transferred when it is still fresh, while other times, it can be frozen and transferred at a future date.
Step 7: The Two-Week Wait and Pregnancy Test
